Anyone know for sure, what Jerry Brown's stance on the furloughs is? Not just speculation, but real fact. I have contacted the campaign, but have not heard back yet.

Where have you been? Do you work for the State of California? For your information, Jerry Brown is one of the Constitutional officers that refuses to furlough his departments' employees. Actions speak louder than words, always. Do you prefer words over actions?

Steve, I agree. However, old Governor Moonbeam has been know to change his opinion. Actually a good thing in some cases. I would just like to hear him say; "no furloughs". Maybe he already has, and I missed it. I will most likely vote for him. His actions are encourageing.

One thing for sure, Governor Moonbeam will want to talk about it before he takes action.

As I recall, Gov Jerry acted when and if he had the authority to do so. He didn't do a whole lot of talking, with the exception of when he tried to "sell" ideas related to conservation, the environment and education. He was the most fiscally frugal Governor during my lifetime. CSEA had to promote a veto override to tear hard-earned salary increases from Jerry. He is not going to rollover when it comes to balancing California's budget. The unions are going to have to act quickly to avoid layoffs, meaning agree to some furloughs in lieu of layoffs. By the time the next governor takes office in January 2011, we will be at mid-point of a budget that is drastically lower than the current budget; it will hurt most Californians.

Ex-Governor Moonbeam opposes reforming Proposition 13's two thirds rule which is the fundamental cause of the budget impasse.

He also favors moving in the direction of a regressive "flat tax."

We have to find an alternative to Jerry Brown. Remember his [sister? cousin? Mother-in-Law?] Kathleen Brown? CSEA was so enthusiastic about endorsing that defanged loser against Pete Wilson that they invited her to be a keynote speaker at a CSEA meeting where she got up and told us how she was going to reduce taxes on the rich and get the fat guys to cut-the-fat from state service. Her campaign so alienated her core constituency (including us) that it propelled Pete Wilson onto a landslide victory.

Is the Moonbeam the best that even the pitiful Democrats can come up with as a candidate for Governor? I believe that this is a sure fire way to ensure the election of Meg Whitman !

P-L-E-E-Z-E give us someone who is willing to denounce the lies of Whitman !

Sorry Mr Keynes, (aka Burkholder), Brown is the only choice. Whitman would be terrible. Your extremist ideas will never be approved by the voter. You are way out there. Even Gov. Moonbeam is closer to the galaxy than you are.

Union Steward:

I have offered some concrete ideas, as have some others on this board. Guest chooses to “reject” these ideas as “out of bounds” but refuses to offer any of his own (or even explain exactly why he thinks my ideas are "out of bounds"). All I asked was that he offer us some of his own ideas.

Instead we get a hysterical scream as in:

So why is it that that you pretend that we are both equally to blame Union steward?

I am not “hurling invective” at anyone. I am merely asking the Guest to give us something we can chew on. He …. Well …

Again …..

No idea would ever be accepted. You are a closed minded, anti-semite. Why bother putting forth any idea to Burkholder, all are rejected, everytime. He is Dr. Vomitus, the all knowing, all seeing, only his ideas matter, socialist. Keep the excrement flowing Dr Vomitus.

Even tho I do not always neccessarily agree with them I find many of the postings of Mr. Keynes and Mr. Burkholder and a few others very thought provoking and I find the namecalling of people like "Guest" appalling and idiotic. The "extremists" here are Meg Whitman and most if not all of the Republicans not Mr. Keynes or some of the others who post on this board.

Mr. "Guest," whoever you are, would you please either step up to the plate and share some of your thoughts on the subject at hand or just go away. I would like to see some real dialog here. Some of the people, and Mr. Keynes and Mr Burkholder are amoung them, are willing to do that. Others, and Mr. "Guest" is amoung those, only want to shoot darts from the sidelines.

The confirmation code for this comment began "2BS" and I find that really appropriate here. I wonder exactly whom the mysterious "Guest" is flinging the smear of anti-semitism at and I, alas, would be real curious to find out what the basis of that might be. My favorite Niece is Jewish as is my sister's husband and neither of them has noted it. I fell in love with the little Jewish community they are a part of back in Philadelphia, particularly the Rabbi.

David/John/Dora, Why don't you ask one of your other "personalities"/aliases if s/he may have posted something that could have been perceived as anti-semitic? I'm guessing it was one of those left-of-Communist radicals.

I wonder if one of those brave souls who likes to hide behind a screen of "respectable" "middle-of-the-swamp" politics could possibly bring herself, himself, or itself to stand up and say "Jerry Brown has the solution" "Jerry Brown has the plan that will fix the State of California."

Perhaps this just might just be a tad more convincing than unsubstantiated charges of "anti-semitism" based on whatever it is that someone might guess that someone who is really me said once upon a time about something that might be construed in the minds of those with vivid imaginations as being against Jewish people.

Stand up for what you believe in or slither away with your tail tucked between your legs but don't play word games and "guess what made me say that."

I have already weighed in on this question and there are at least a few people who do not like what I have to say.

I could say it again. But if we are going to have a dialog, and I think we should, we should hear some of the thoughts of others who are, perhaps, more "reasonable" and more "forgiving" than I am. So far all anyone has done is point out that Jerry Brown is not Meg Whitman and called me an anti-semite.

I admit I have a very low tolerance for wading thru volumes of doublespeak looking for the gems of wisdom buried in between the lines there so it is entirely possible I missed some kernel of a really inspiring idea from Jerry Brown.

I think that labor unions need to choose the politicians that we will support rather than accept the dregs that get thru the money maize. But perhaps you think different. If you love Jerry Brown or think he is somebody different tell us all why you think that. I, for one, would really like to be convinced.

Or ...... you can just sling some more excrement.

I for one do not like the excrement slinging. Looks to me like we have a choice of Jerry Brown vs Meg or Poznier. Politics as usual in the State of California. Seems we like to "hold our nose and vote", too often. In this society, our process, this is the "way". How to break the cycle? More learned people will have to come up with that, and I do not have an answer.

Do you like Meg Whitman?

If you like Meg Whitman then vote for Meg Whitman.

If you don't like Meg Whitman and wish to defeat Meg Whitman - you must vote for Jerry Brown.

It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown. It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown. It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown. It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown. It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown. It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown. It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown. It is Meg Whitman or it is Jerry Brown.

If you like Jerry Brown that is great. If you don't you must hold your nose while you vote for him.

End of story.

I fully understand that argument and can say nothing whatsoever to contradict it.

I believe that is why we can never really "fix" anything. Republicans make a mess so we elect Democrats who sit on it and waste time. We get tired of Democrats sitting around twiddling their thumbs so we elect Republicans who then race pell mell into a sewer. We respond by electing Democrats who sit around and waste some more time doing pretty much nothing and then we elect Republicans who take us down further into the abyss.

Jerry Brown is clueless. But is he better than Meg Whitman? You bet. Democrats always are.
